Antoine Corridor re-development
Livable Center Project
The Livable Centers Grant will provide funding to develop
design recommendations, infrastructure improvements and urban design solutions that will provide residents and businesses with more
appealing places for people to interact and gather, make walking, bicycling and transit more convenient, preserve the environment
and create a unique community that will act as a catalyst for investment and development. Click to learn more about Livable Centers.
The focus of the Livable Center Study is to explore the creation of a Town Center along the Antoine Corridor from the former Inwood Forest Golf Course to Aron Ledet Park that would attract business into the area as well as increase the area's livability for its residents.
In October 2009 volunteers from Toshiba Inc., under the direction of Barry Ward of Trees for Houston, participated in a major planting in the Aron Ledet Park. The CEO of Toshiba also participated by physically helping to plant trees in the park and presented a $20,000 check to Trees for Houston to cover the cost of the project.
A big thank you to Toshiba for their generous gift to our community!
1. Water (celebrate the bayou and its tributaries)
2. Parks & Gardens (all connected via bike trail)
3. Destination (bring people into the area)
4. Transforming Antoine Drive into pedestrian area (upgraded retail)
5. Upgraded transit connections such as express service and regional connections
The Near Northwest Management District has been
working to put together a vision for what our community could become. Almost a year ago the District submitted one vision of how to
improve the area to the Houston-Galveston Area Council for consideration for a Livable Centers Study Grant. In September 2010 they
received notification that their application was approved and was awarded the grant.
Past Houston-Galveston Area Council Livable
Center Study areas include: Energy Corridor, East End, Midtown, Upper Kirby, Northside and many others. Click to see more of these.

Daniel Rose Center for Public Leadership in Land Use
The mission of the ULI Daniel
Rose Center for Public Leadership in Land Use is to encourage and support excellence in land use decision making. By providing public
officials with access to information, best practices, peer networks, and other resources, the Rose Center seeks to foster creative,
efficient, practical, and sustainable land use policies. Main goals are: economic growth, jobs and area revitalization.
The Rose
Center assembles a panel of experts to visit each fellowship city to learn about their land use challenge and advise their fellowship
team. In October 2010 the mayors of Charlotte, Detroit, Houston, and Sacramento were named for the 2010-2011 fellowship year.
Mayor
Annise Parker's team selected the Antoine Corridor for their study.

On March 2nd, City council passed unanimously the ordinance approving the city purchase of the inwood forest golf course. The next step will be the actual closing of the sale which is currently scheduled to take place in late March or early April.
Congratulations to Inwood Forest for their very long and tough battle. The community will now have a much needed park for all to enjoy... and certainly will be a nice addition to the area's re-development!
