What are those circles on Antoine?

A memorial fund of $3,000 was established for the Antoine Drive esplanade designer Ed Richardson almost 3 years ago. The Greater Inwood Partnership also received a City of Houston matching grant award. Together these funds will create the 4-esplanade Antoine Drive Knock Out Rose Project, with most of the work being done on the 500 foot esplanade directly across from the Aron Ledet Park.

That esplanade, designed by famed local landscape architect Keiji Asakura, is part of a 3-phase project to create a landmark for the greater Inwood community.

Trees for Houston - Toshiba

In October volunteers from Toshiba Inc., under the direction of Barry Ward of Trees for Houston, participated in a major planting in the Aron Ledet Park. The CEO of Toshiba also participated by physically helping to plant trees in the park and presented a $20,000 check to Trees for Houston to cover the cost of the project.

A big thank you to Toshiba for their generous gift to our community!

This is NOT a city project... This is our way of putting a stake in the ground and saying this is our community! GIP applied for and received a matching grant which allowed our volunteers to complete the first phase and start the second phase.

Phase 1, the crushed granite design is already installed. Phase 2 is the exquisite planting of shrubs, flowers and trees. Phase 3 is a park art project that will be designed by Lone Star College.

The next phase of planting will be...

5 Hong Kong Orchid trees
5 Mexican Palo Verde
6 Natchez crape myrtle
5 Bailey Acacia

Followed by:
Evergreen daylilies in beds adjacent to and the same size as the new rose beds

Followed by:
Baby bliss flax lilies
Asian jasmine
Bermuda hydroseed

All of this is dependent upon donations and volunteer labor. The esplanade is sponsored by the Near Northwest Management District and will be maintained by Sicola Landscaping Company on Pinemont Drive.

Pleaseemail us if you would like to volunteer and/or for more information.
